1746-NR8

Description: Allen Bradley 1746-NR8 is an SLC 500 RTD/resistive analog input module. This RTD/resistor analog input module has eight (8) channels and is compatible with RTD sensors such as platinum (385), platinum (3916), copper (416), nickel (618), nickel (672), and ferronickel. It is also compatible with direct input from resistive devices. The module is compatible with both fixed and modular SLC 500.

About 1746-NR8

1746-NR8 is a resistance temperature detector (RTD)/resistance module. The module accepts resistance signals from RTD sensors such as Platinum (385) 100, 200, 500, and 1000; Platinum (3816) 100, 200, 500, and 1000; Copper (426) 10, nickel (618) 120, nickel (672) 120, and nickel iron (518) 604 have direct resistance values of 0-150 ohms, 0-500 ohms, 0-1000 ohms, and 0-300 ohms.

This module is dedicated to the SLC 500 system. It may be specifically used with two (2) variants of the SLC 500, such as fixed and modular hardware styles. It occupies a single slot of any used chassis and does not require an external power supply to replace it. The module is powered by the backplane power generated by the system power supply.

This module is primarily used for temperature applications because RTD sensors are specifically designed to measure temperature readings. The resistance capability of this module is suitable for measuring displacement or motion or mechanical devices. Typically, it is used to measure the decrease and increase in resistance readings reflected by stroke length and motion.

This module supports 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire RTD sensors. For 2-wire RTDs, the recommended wire is Belden 9501 shielded cable or equivalent. For 3-wire or 4-wire RTDs, use Belden 9533 or Belden 83503 cables. For 2-wire RTDs, avoid using long cables because it can reduce measurement accuracy. This is unavoidable and can be minimized by using smaller sized cables (such as AWG # 16 wire instead of AWG # 24 wire). Basically, use cables with low resistance per foot. Terminals for removable terminal blocks (RTBs) are only used for single wire connections.

The maximum backplane power consumption of the 1746-NR8 module is 1.82W, 0.5W at 5V DC, and 1.32W at 24V DC. The backplane current consumption of the 1746-NR8 is 100 mA at 5 VDC and 55 mA at 24 VDC. Its maximum common mode voltage is+/- 1 volts, while its maximum permanent overload current is+/- 5 mA, and its DC voltage is+/- 5 volts. The isolation voltage of the 1746-NR8 module is 5 volts DC between channels, 500 volts AC between the input and backplane, and between the input and chassis ground for 1 minute. Its operating temperature range is 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, storage temperature range is – 40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, and non condensing relative humidity is 5 to 95%.
