About 1747-ASB

Allen Bradley 1747-ASB is a remote I/O adapter module that is part of the SLC 500 system. It establishes communication links between SLC or PLC scanners and various 1746 I/O modules through remote I/O. The remote I/O link consists of a master device (i.e. SLC or PLC scanner) and one or more slave devices as adapters. The SLC or PLC image table directly obtains the I/O module image mapping from its chassis. For image mapping, it supports both discrete and block transfer. 1747-ASB supports 1/2 slot, 1 slot, and 2 slot addressing, with efficient image utilization. It is installed in the chassis along with the SLC 500 processor and scans for I/O.

The 1747-ASB module has a backplane current of 375mA at 5V and 0mA at 24V. Its minimum and maximum heat dissipation is 1.875 W. It can transmit I/O data up to a distance of 3040 meters and supports baud rates of 57.6K, 115.2K, and 230.4K. It allows users to select image sizes for up to 32 logical groups and control up to 30 chassis slots. The 1747-ASB also provides non volatile memory and expansion node functionality for up to 32 adapters. When wiring, Belden 9463 or similar cables must be used and no user programming is required. It uses a 6-pin Phoenix connector to connect the remote I/O link to the processor. The 1747-ASB module supports all SLC 501 I/O modules, such as basic modules, resistor modules, high-speed counter modules, etc. For troubleshooting and operation, it has three 7-segment displays with enhanced ability to display operational status and errors. 1747-ASB is designed for use in industrial environments and provides NEMA standard immunity.

1747-ASB is a remote IO adapter belonging to the SLC 500 automation platform. This IO adapter communicates with the I/O scanner module, interface card, and gateway to establish a remote IO connection.

For PLC applications, the main purpose of this module is to achieve distributed IO applications through remote I/O networks. Compared to the SLC expansion bus, the expansion has limited cable length and very limited SLC chassis expansion. For 1747-ASB, up to 32 SLC chassis with 1747 RIO scanners can be used, suitable for distances of 762 meters or 2500 feet (230.4 KBaud), 1524 meters or 5000 feet (115.2 KBaud), and 3048 meters or 10000 feet (57.6 KBaud). This adapter has a control capability of up to 30 slots, which can be segmented into different chassis or racks, with each rack equipped with a RIO scanner and a power supply.

In addition to communicating with remote IO scanners, this module can also be used to communicate with Allen Bradley communication cards installed directly on personal computers. This can be achieved through remote programming and configuration functions as well as remote control through monitoring and data acquisition (SCADA). Alternatively, Allen Bradley Human Machine Interface (HMI), such as PanelView products, can add remote I/O adapters to enable the HMI to control processes like SCADA systems.

This remote I/O adapter also supports communication with Allen Bradley, including partner products and third-party gateways and converters, for achieving third-party communication with other automation products.
