About 1756-CNB

The Allen Bradley 1756-CNB or ControlNet bridging module is an interface module used to connect the ControlLogix rack to the ControlNet network. Compared to the Allen Bradley 1756-CNBR module, 1756-CNB is used in standard, non redundant configurations. If each communication module of the user application has 40 to 48 Logix communication connections, then the module is perfect. Its communication rate is 5 megabytes per second and there are 99 available nodes. The 1756-CNB module handles two things, namely controlling I/O data when used with the Logix5550 controller for both scheduled and non scheduled data, bridging data between the ControlLogix backplane and the ControlNet network. Ensure that the path information is correct in order to correctly route the messages it receives.

The 1756-CNB module can support up to 64 bidirectional connections with other ControlNet devices. It can be a mixture of predetermined and non predetermined connections. However, the number of supported connections also depends on the network configuration. If the application requires more connections, users can add another 1756-CNB module, but they must ensure that it is in the same chassis and network as the first module. It can also support up to 20 unconnected message buffers. It also has 2 ports -1 ControlNet BNC port and 1 ControlNet RJ45 port. When installing the 1756-CNB module, users need to first set the node address switch of the module. They can choose a unique node address from 01 to 99. Then, users can use this module as an independent control module by using a set of modules, or use it as a redundant control setting by using the same module pair (partner). When using redundant control, the node address switch should have the same node address. The current consumption of 1756-CNB is 970 mA at 5.1 V DC, and 1.7 mA if the current consumption is 24 V DC. Its rated power consumption is 5.14 watts.

1756-CNB is a ControlLogix communication adapter used to connect any ControlLogix rack to the ControlNet data highway. This module is a single slot module with integrated communication ports, including one (1) BNC connector for non redundant media operation and one (1) NAP (shielded RJ-45 8-pin).

This ControlNet bridge is compatible with the ControlNet modules of the Allen Bradley platform, such as Flex IO systems, Point IO, SLC and PLC5 ControlNet, ControlNet interface cards, and partner modules.

It can be used to implement distributed I/O applications, where a large number of racks containing ControlLogix I/O modules are installed. It can also be used to bridge networks with different protocols and exchange information through the ControlNet network. In the ControlNet system, connecting to a single ControlNet bridging module allows direct access to the main controller in the network, where program modifications and testing can be performed. In addition, this protocol can also be used to interact with human-machine interface (HMI) and monitoring and data acquisition (SCADA) applications.
